Are All Republicans As Out Of Touch As Boehner?

On National Television John Boehner minimized the sacrifice of our soldiers in Iraq. House Republican Leader John Boehner said the "investment" in American lives we're making today is a "small price" to pay. Yesterday Governor Dean sent out a statement demanding that Boehner apologize for his deplorable comments. Instead of apologizing for his comments, a spokesman for Boehner tried to cover up the comments saying that Representative Boehner was referring only to the monetary costs of the war in Iraq, but the transcript of the interview proves otherwise.

Today Governor Dean is reiterating his call Republican leader Boehner to apologize and is asking the Republican presidential candidates and members of congress to repudiate Boehner's remarks. But we need all of you to email your members of Congress and ask them to denounce his comments. We've set up a tool to help you do exactly that.

Governor Dean:

"House Republican Leader John Boehner's comments on Wednesday are deplorable and he should apologize immediately. Our brave men and women who have given their lives in service to our country and their families have made the ultimate sacrifice, and to say anything less is insulting to their memories and service. Republicans stubbornly refuse to acknowledge that their Iraq policy is a failure, our troops are mired in a civil war and we're not making the necessary political progress on the ground.

"Boehner's comments show how truly out of touch the Republicans are. The loss of a son or daughter is never a small price to pay, especially for a policy which was initiated by Republicans who misled the nation about why we are there. I call on all members of Congress, as well as the Republican presidential candidates, to join the American people in denouncing these offensive and insensitive remarks.  But that alone is not enough.  The best way to honor the sacrifice of our brave men and women in uniform is to change course in Iraq and bring our troops home."

John McCain has already called on Boehner to retract his remarks, but not apologize. Will Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson and Rudy Giuliani rebuke House Republican Leader John Boehner's hurtful remarks?

And while we're at it, let's put EVERY SINGLE member of Congress on the record. Will they condemn this disgraceful talking point that minimizes the sacrifice of those risking their lives in pursuit of a failed policy?

We've set up a tool to help you do just that. Send them a letter. Then call. And then report back to us in the comments.

I work for the Democratic Party.
